Fishin’ Card Game
QUICK START GAME PLAY RULES
To win - collect the most Fishin’ Points in 1 or 2 rounds of play.
Up to 6 players
Each player receives a SNAG! card.
Shuffle the 90 Fishin’ cards and deal 5 cards face down to each player - the Player’s Hand. Player’s look at these cards.
Deal 5 additional Fishin’ cards face down to each player - the Player’s Pond - spread these cards in front of the player (no peaking).
Place the remaining Fishin’ cards face down in the middle in a draw pile - the Secret Fishin’ Hole.
Flip the top card of the Secret Fishin’ Hole over face up to create a discard pile - the Discard Pond.
You are now ready to play. Choose a player to take the first turn and then play proceeds clockwise.
ON A PLAYER’S TURN
Step 1. The player chooses a face down Fish card in their Player’s Pond to turn face up (if any cards remain face down).
Step 2. Go Fishin’ - the player selects ONE card from one of these places:
- top card of the Secret Fishin’ Hole;
- top card of the Discard Pond;
- or, if an immediate match can be made, the face-up card of any Player’s Pond. Only one card can be fished in total from one of these three places.
Step 3. If desired and available, the player makes a match. The player may place one match in their Fishin’ Catch from the cards in their hand. A match is made from two identical Fish cards in the Player’s Hand (matching fish with same number and color) or with any Fish card and a Wild card.
Step 4. If the player has more than 6 cards in their hand, they must discard a card to the Discard Pond.
Step 4. The player’s turn is over and play continues clockwise.
A player can use their SNAG! card one time per round. During another player’s turn Fishin’, the player using their SNAG! card can block a catch from being completed from a Player’s Pond or the Discard Pond. Say “SNAG!” and place the SNAG! card next to the Fish card. The player taking their turn Fishin’ that was just snagged will need to take a Fish card from another place. A Fish card can only be snagged one time after which that Fish card can be caught by the next player to take a turn. The SNAG! card is removed from the game.
If a player does not make a match on their turn, if the player has the Old Boot card in their hand or in their Pond, the player can place the Old Boot card in another Player’s Pond.
Play continues until a Player’s Pond is fished out (empty of fish cards but it can have the Old Boot card) by a player and each of the other players take one last turn. The round ends and players add up their combined Fishin’ Points in their Fishin’ Catch. If a Player’s Pond is empty of fish and also the Old Boot they receive 10 extra points. Each player’s total points are recorded and, if a second round is played, start over as shown in Quick Start above.
